Pacemaker App for Playbook

Tuesday’s BlackBerry World General Session was jam-packed with news about RIM’s current and future projects. Wednesday afternoon’s press event with CEO Thorsten Heins was just as informative, without all the flash. Heins pointed out that the new BB 10 platform would be focused on having a strong framework for third-party apps, especially when it came to the Playbook.

One of those third-party apps is from the creator of the Tonium Pacemaker DJ Systems, Jonas Norberg. The Pacemaker app replaces the Pacemaker gadget, which was a pocket-size DJ with a 120 GB hard drive capable of doing everything a standard turntable does. Despite rave reviews, the Pacemaker didn’t sell too well, so production stopped. It’s being revived as an app in BlackBerry’s Playbook tablet. Norberg was on hand at the BlackBerry party to demo it. The virtual mixer holds a full set of features and audio effects one usually finds in a standard, tabletop mixer. The app is still in development, just like BB 10, and no definitive date or price has been set.
