united turbulenceDenver (AP)  A large number of United Airlines were hit by severe turbulence diverted Tuesday to the Denver International Airport with at least 25 injured on board, authorities said.

Representative of the company’s United Flight 967 hit turbulence after takeoff from Kansas Dulles International Airport in Washington DC, en route to Los Angeles, said the Federal Aviation Administration.

There were storms in the region, said Jean Medina, United spokeswoman told Reuters.

The flight crew immediately diverted the plane to Denver for medical care as quickly as possible for those who are injured, he said.

Medina said that 255 passengers and 10 crew members were aboard the plane a twin-engine Boeing 777

Eric Tade, a spokesman for the Denver Fire Department, said the security plan landed shortly after 19 clock time, and about 30 people were injured, one seriously.

Medina said he knew of 25 people taken to the hospital, but did not know the nature and extent of their injuries.

The aircraft was not damaged by the turmoil, officials said.
